Printing

ChromeOS supports a full-featured printing system that will allow you to print documents, photos and more from within the Chrome Web Browser, Chrome Apps and other applications installed on your device. Sending a file to the printer can be done via the print button in the Chrome Browser or within the web application, or directly into the third-party applications that you wish to print from.

Adding a Printer (USB)

ChromeOS supports the ability to print via a USB connection by simply connecting the printer to a USB port on your ChromeOS Device. You do not need to install any printer drivers or any manufacture supplied software on your ChromeOS Device.

Adding a Printer (Network)

If you are using a network-based printer, ChromeOS will automatically search for and display the supported printers on the network and display the name of the printer. Both wireless and wired network connections are allowed. Once a printer has been added to your device, you can print to it immediately. You do not need to install any printers drivers or manufacturer supplied software.

If you are using a network-based printer that does not advertise itself on your Network, you can manually add the printer via the ChromeOS Settings Application.

  2. Expand the Advanced Tab
  3. Select Print and Scan

  5. Select Add Printer - You will need to supply the name of the printer and the IP Address of the printer on your network. ChromeOS supports multiple network printing protocols, however Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) or Secure Internet Printing Protocol (IPPS) are the most common. If you are unsure of which you should use, please consult your network administrator or printer manufacturer.

Adding a Print Server

If you are using your ChromeOS device on a network with a dedicated print server which manages multiple printers from a centralized server, you can add a print server to your device via the ChromeOS Settings Application.
