ChromeOS Account Settings

ChromeOS allows for multiple users to share the same ChromeOS Device. User accounts are managed via the "Account Settings" section of the ChromeOS settings application. This portion of the guide will assist you in understanding how user accounts are managed.

Account Types

ChromeOS has two account types

  • Named User - Named User Accounts are the default account type used by ChromeOS, in which a user authenticates into their device using a GMail or company issued email address. Named user accounts allow ChromeOS to sync settings to Google's cloud and unlocks all the base features of ChromeOS.

  • Guest User - Guest User accounts are intended for temporary use. Once a Guest session ends, all downloads, setting changes and browser history are purged. It is highly advised to disable the Guest user account if you do not need it as it does allow a guest user to access the contents of any external storage device connected to your ChromeOS device such as a MicroSD cards, Flash Drive or connected USB Hard Drives.
