Valve Steam

Valve Steam Is a Large Application

Steam is a large application that will consume a significant amount of disk space on your ChromeOS device. It is also better suited to higher end ChromeOS devices and may not perform well on lower-end ChromeOS devices. Steam games will also cobsume a large amount of space on your device which may limit its use on machines with smaller disks. Performance will also vary based on the game and the hardware of your ChromeOS device. Some games may not run at all on your ChromeOS device. Some ChromeOS devices do officially support Steam and if yours is on the officially supported list of devices, you do not need to follow the steps on this page as the Steam Client will already be installed on your device.

Installing Steam

You can install the Steam Client on a Intel or AMD based ChromeOS device by running the following on the ChromeOS Linux Terminal

cd ~/tmp
wget https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/client/installer/steam.deb
sudo apt install ./steam.deb
rm ./steam.deb

Steam is currently not supported on ARM based ChromeOS devices

Once installed, Steam will be accessable in your ChromeOS Application Launcher.
