New Features and Enhancements

Developer Updates

  • Native Client (NaCl) Deprecation: ChromeOS 132 is the last release supporting NaCl for unmanaged/consumer devices. Managed devices can extend NaCl support through ChromeOS 138 using the DeviceNativeClientForceAllowed policy.

Accessibility and User Interaction

  • FaceGaze on ChromeOS: AI-powered face and gesture tracking allow users to navigate their Chromebook, open apps, and compose emails without a keyboard or mouse, improving accessibility for users with motor disabilities.
  • Touchpad Disable Option: Users can now turn off the touchpad via Settings > Accessibility > Cursor and Touchpad, reducing accidental clicks and improving accessibility.

Security and Authentication

  • Passwordless ChromeOS Authentication: Users can now set a local password or PIN for their device, eliminating the need to log in using their Google account password.
  • Biometric Authentication for Password Manager: ChromeOS now supports biometric authentication for autofill and saved passwords.

UI and Onboarding Enhancements

  • App Discovery Migration to App Mall: The Apps & Games module in the Explore app has been removed in favor of the new App Mall feature.
  • Onboarding Refresh: A new task list consolidates setup items such as printer configuration, Bluetooth pairing, and touchpad settings into a guided workflow.
  • Rounded Corners for Apps: Chromebook Plus devices now feature a refreshed UI with rounded corners for all app windows.

Enterprise and Device Management

  • Graduate Student Data Migration: A new Content Transfer tool helps students migrate their Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Gmail data to a personal Gmail account through the Takeout Transfer process.
  • Remote Management for Idle Devices: Admins can now initiate Chrome Remote Desktop (CRD) on idle ChromeOS devices sitting at the login screen for troubleshooting and testing.
  • ChromeOS Device Bedtime Hours Policy: The DeviceRestrictionSchedule policy allows administrators to restrict logins on specified Chromebooks during certain hours.
  • Improved Managed Device Disclosure: The lock screen now provides clearer information about managed devices, enhancing transparency for users.
