New Features and Enhancements

Productivity and User Experience

  • Bento Button for Virtual Desks: A new Virtual Desk Button on the shelf enables quick desk visualization, switching, creation, and reordering.
  • Mouse Scroll Acceleration Controls: Users can now disable mouse scroll acceleration and adjust scroll speed.
  • Customizable Keyboard Keys: Configure actions for keys such as right-click, home, end, and page up in the new Customize Keyboard Keys settings.
  • Resize Picture-in-Picture (PiP) Windows: Users can now resize PiP windows using a pinch gesture.
  • Redesigned Emoji Picker: The floating emoji and GIF picker now features a dynamic color palette.

Media and Compatibility Changes

  • Deprecation of Legacy Media Containers and Codecs: Support for the MPEG4 Part 2 video codec and AVI container has been deprecated, with temporary re-enablement available via chrome://flags/#cros-legacy-media-formats until ChromeOS 125.

Security and Enterprise Features

  • Extended Detection and Response (XDR) Authentication Events: ChromeOS now supports authentication event tracking (login, logout, lock, unlock) for security insights.
  • App Management Enhancements: Users can now view storage usage, version number, and installation method for apps via Settings > Apps > Manage Your Apps.

New and Updated Admin Policies

  • PowerManagementIdleSettings: Manage screen dimming, screen-off behavior, and idle actions.
  • ScreenLockDelays: Set idle duration before screen lock.
  • LidCloseAction: Define actions when a Chromebook lid is closed.
  • ChromeOsLockOnIdleSuspend: Enable or disable automatic screen locking when the lid is closed.
  • PrivateNetworkAccessRestrictionsEnabled: Control restrictions on requests to more-private network endpoints.
  • DeviceFlexHwDataForProductImprovementEnabled: Allows sending hardware data for ChromeOS Flex improvements.
  • IPv6ReachabilityOverrideEnabled: Enables override for IPv6 reachability checks.
  • DataUrlInSvgUseEnabled: Configures support for Data URL in SVGUseElement, which is now disabled by default.
