The ChromeOS Linux Environment

Many modern ChromeOS devices support the ability to activate Linux Support. This allows supported devices to run many of the thousands of Linux Applications that are built to run on Linux. This includes countless developer tools, IDE, compilers, games and productivity software. ChromeOS's Linux Runtime is an advanced tool that was primarily targeted to developers and power users; however, there are several other advantages to using Linux on your ChromeOS device.

This section of the ChromeOS Guide is dedicated to helping users of supported devices to take full advantage of the Linux Runtime. If you are unsure if your device supports Linux, you should consult our ChromeOS Device Database.
