Security Keys

USB Security Keys are considered one of the most effective ways to protect your sensitive data, especially when combined with a complex password. These security keys contain a unique signature that a compatible web service can request along with your normal credentials to ensure that you are present on the machine that is used to authenticate - a process known as 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) or Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

If you choose to use a USB Security Key, it is strongly advised to purchase 2 USB Security Keys and pair them with the services that you wish to secure.  One of these keys should be carried with you at all times, and the other key should be kept in a safe location and used to access your account if your primary key is lost, stolen or damaged. 

ChromeOS does support U2F USB Security Keys; the following keys have been tested and confirmed to work with ChromeOS (and all major operating systems):
